The beautiful Matsumoto Castle in Nagano Prefecture. It’s one of the best castles in Japan, and is especially good if combined with a trip to Kisoji area, a region with old towns along an ancient highway where you can see some of the best-preserved historical sites in the country.
Long-time resident in Japan (since 1993) but originally from Canada. Has written guidebook chapters, magazine articles, tons of blog entries and even a book about less-known aspects of Japan.
