Some Buddhist statues are serenely beautiful. Others are terrifyingly ferocious. But every once in a while, you’ll come across a cute or funny one. Rakan Butsuzo, images of the disciples of Buddha, are often depicted pulling funny faces, with humorous features, or in bizarre poses. I found your blog quite by accident today and I’m hooked! I’ve been going through your archives having oodles of fun, but I just had to comment on this one. The photo is so gorgeous!! It really makes me smile – not only is the statue super cute, but the way you’ve captured it really adds to the experience. Thanks so much for sharing your work with the rest of us! I’m currently stuck in the States right now due to some ill health, but I’ve been day-dreaming of a trip to Japan for quite a while now. Once I’m well enough, I’m definitely going to make it to Japan, but in the mean time, I can read your blog, look at your beautiful photos, and imagine I’m there. 🙂
Thank you for your kind words about my site. I hope you’ll be able to visit Kyoto when you’ve recovered.
