The New Year’s festival at Shuri Castle in Okinawa is a re-enactment of the traditional New Year’s festival that held in the old days. The costumes are gorgeous and they play traditional music.

These are fantastic. Thank you for sharing them. I have grown fascinated with Okinawa over the last several years, and enjoyed the pleasure of getting to visit, however briefly, down there a few months ago. I hope to go back soon.
It is wonderful that they continue to reenact such beautiful ancient traditions of the now defunct kingdom.
